Garden in my mind

The seed catalogue has made my mind a wee bit unstable.... You know, I'm in Finland, it is January and that equals to a loooooong wait until it is gardening time!
Couple pics from time before the kids (it means I had time to go to the hairdressers and actually harvest...) when I had just cleared this plot and the garden was just a tiny opening in the middle of a "jungle":

But we ate like kings, all organic and all from our own garden!

1. Hens, these brown, cool hens! We had some, couple years back, but there was hawks and foxes who ate them all during couple nights... So proper hen house and locking them in every night!

Winter whining

You have been warned... Whining, whining....The first seed catalogue came on Thursday and oh boy, gardening thoughts have been taking majority of my very limited spare brain capacity. And it seems so far away, since we now have the "coldest" weather this winter -14 degrees (last year it was -34 at this same time, so I know I should not even call this "winter" but what can one do....).
Korpikangas ehti ensimmäisenä lähettämään siemenluettelonsa ja jopas irtosi inho talvea kohtaan täysin liekein! Rajoitettu vapaa aivokapasitettiini on nyt kuormitettu puutarhasuunnitelmilla. Värimaailma on menneiden parin kesän jatkoa. Muutamaa uutta kukkalajiketta tekisi mieleni kokeilla, mutta näillä (kai) jatketaan:

Just couple new one I would like to try...And of course have to see the damages caused by winter months and moles!
Oh, and the vegetables... Everytime I go to do the the grocery shopping I'm having secret heart attack with the vegetable prices; tiny bunch of lettuce 1.49!!! Kilo of tomatoes 4.98!!!! Organic carrots 4.99 per kilo!!!! OMG!!! It is so incredible to be able to walk (with bare, black and dirty feet preferably) into the greenhouse or vegetable garden (which now in the winter time in my dreams are just pure clean of weeds -for sure!!) collect what you want to eat or cook from, all organic, all OH SO TASTY and all grown by me! So for sure, lots of different tomatoes, massive amount of lettuces of all possible kinds, herbs (fresh basil...fresh dill...I'm drooling here!), peppers, cucumbers...List goes on and on, and I get this mental images of Irish shaking his head when the seed packages keep on appearing with every single post delivery...


No sitten; joka ikinen kerta kun Prisman heviosastolle astun iskee pienimuotoinen sydäri. Hinnat ovat jotain USKOMATONTA, varsinkin jos luomua halajaa. (Ihan nytkin hengitys salpautuu...Varsinkin kun ajattelen kurppaisia lehtisalaatteja; 1.49 se pieni nahistunut puska!!!) Saati että vaihtoehtona on kävellä mieluusti varsin mustin ja paskaisin varpain kasvihuoneeseen tai kasvimaalle ja itse kerätä, mitä mieli juuri silloin haljaapi. (Ja tietysti nyt talvella ei missään näy yhtään rikkaruohoa, tai ylipäätään muutakaan tuhoa...;D) Ja miten hyvälle kaikki itsekasvattama maistuukaan, ja kotona kasvatettu jos jokin on varmasti luomua, kun tasan tarkkaan tiedän, mitä olen maahan mustin tynkäkynsisin sormini lykännyt! Joten tomaateja sen sataa lajiketta, erilaisia lehtisalaatteja pitää kokeilla, ja yrttejä, yrttejä, yrttejä!Listähön jatkuu loputtoiin, ja niin näen mielessäni Irlantilaisen pudistelemassa kiharaa päätään, kun siemenlähetyksiä on joka ikisen päivän postissa.

Another thing; NO NEED TO DRESS THE KIDS WHEN GOING OUTSIDE!! I'm so SO fed up getting two little ones dressed for outside. Normal clothes, ok, then layer of fleece clothes, then outside winter over all, then this winter layer of waterproof overalls, then woolly socks, boots, woolly gloves, top gloves (water proofed), hat... Emmi-Sofia is ok partly getting herself dressed, but it still takes if I'm fast and they both are co-operating (does NOT happen 99% of the time) 15  minutes. Then I'm all sweaty and when I'm getting my clothes on, I put too little and I'm about to freeze after 2 minutes outside. Instead; open the door, let naked kids run about(and preferably do the same yourself)!


Ja hei, ei tarvetta lasten pukemiseen. Ovi auki ja ulos! No ehkä ne kengät voi juurikin jalkoihinsa saada, jos Vuoden Äiti oikein innostuu. Tuo talvivaaterumba on niin karseaa!!

                            

Ja ihan oma tarinansa on sitten lehmien ruokinta, mutta siitä lisää myöhemmin. Nyt loppui valitus!

And this requires a whole new story, but no need for frozen tractors to feed the cows! That story will be told later, since no whining is over for one night!

Puutarhassa -In the Garden

Tänään tajusin, miksi  ei tämä stressi ja hampaiden pureminen-päänsärky-entistä suurempi ahdistus -kierre ota loppuakseen. En ole tehnyt puutarhatöitä ties koska!! Ja kun tänään alkuun pääsin, en olisi malttanut millään lopettaa. Irlantilainen, ja myös Ranskalainen kotiorja , kun kerta samassa työpaikassa ovat saivat käskyn tulla hommiin ASAP (niin kuin kaikki siinä firmassa tapahtuu....ja sitten ihmetellään myöhemmin, että olisikos taas pitänyt ENSIN miettiä....!), joten lopetettava oli, mutta suunnittelu on jatkunut päässä siitä asti!
Today I realised why my teeth grinding-headache-massive stress-cycle would not stop; I haven't done enough gardening!Once I had a chance and weather to get started today, it was painful to stop! But Irish and French houseslave had to go to their work ASAP, so I had to stop and start taking care of the kids.
Tonttihan on ihan järjettömän suuri -riippuen, mihin pystyisi rajan vetämään, joten töitä riittäisi, vaikka olisin vain puutarhurina päivät pitkät. Ja mikäs sen mukavempaa olisikaan -kunhan vaan osuisi kohdalle tämän illan lottovoitto!
Our plot is unbelievably huuuuuuge!I wish I could afford to be a full-time gardener, but nope-haven't won the lottory yet!

 Minun takapihani, Irlantilaisen takapiha (kyllä nämä kulttuuri- tai tässä tapauksessa ehkä enemmänkin sukupuolierot ovat kiehtovia!!) alkaa olemaan aikalailla valmis. Pientä kivetystä ja kasvien tuuhentumisen odottelua. Ja terassi teitysti olisi kiva saada valmiiksi... :D
My backgarden, Irish's front one is getting its shape. Little bit more stone work and waiting for the plants to grow. And the terrace....

 Kun kuvakulmaa laajennetaan, alkavat ongelmat; aitan katto on remonttia vaille valmis. Toivottavassti eivät sotke kasvi- ja mansikkamaatani!
If I take to more wide angle, the problems begun; the roof of the wee house needs to be repaired. End on next month, said the roofing boys. I wish they do not mess my vegetable garden and strawberry field!

 Mitä ihmettä voi tehdä Irlantilaisen 180 cm halkaisijaltaan olevalle satelliittilautaselle...(Pieni muistutus; tv-lupamaksua ei ole maksettu....!!)
And what the hell do I do with Irish's 180 cm diameter satellite dish??

Tästä kuvakulmasta näyttää oikeastaan aika hyvältä. Koko kesän kukkii jokin ja edelleen kukinta jatkuu.

The bit below looks quite ok! There is constant blooming all summer long, and still continuing!

 Mutta mitä tehdä männylle, joka kärsi kovasti vanhan talon palosta? Erkkerin eteen tulee havutarha, maaperä siinä oli niin outoa, etten keksinyt muutakaan, kuin sorakatteen ja havuja.
But what to do with the pine, which suffered badly when the old house was on fire?In fron of the dining room, I have already planted some evergreens and covered the ground with stones.

 Aidan petsaan tummaksi. Tie talolle nousee aidan vierustaa.
The fence will be painted dark. The road up to the house runs along the fence.

 Kasvihuoneen edusta ja vanha omenatarha odottavat muutosta. Ideoita on, mutta kuka sponsoroisi taimet??
Greenhouse area and the old orchard are waiting for a complete make over. But who is willing to sponsor???
